Wonder Wheel gives Into Mischief his 55th lifetime GSW
October 7, 2022
Wonder Wheel out-nodded Chop Chop at the finish of Friday’s $500,000 Alcibiades S. (G1) to give the 2-year-old daughter of Into Mischief her first graded stakes victory and also earn her an automatic berth into next month’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), which will also be held at Keeneland.
Into Mischief now has 13 graded stakes winners for the year, and 55 lifetime. Wonder Wheel is his 12th lifetime Grade 1 winner, joining the likes of Authentic, Life Is Good, Gamine and Goldencents.
Wonder Wheel, who was second in the Spinaway S. (G1) last time out, hustled away from her inside post and emerged as the leader as the field of 14 rounded the first turn. She led the way through six furlongs in 1:11.60, with a two-length advantage at that point. Chop Chop, who was far back early, made up ground through the stretch, but could not catch the winner, who finished the 1 1/16-miles on a fast track in 1:45.17.
“She had a great trip today; she had a little bit of a troubled trip [in the Spinaway],@ said trainer Mark Casse. “Today was it, and hopefully this will lead us into another big race coming up. She ran well, had a great trip.”
Wonder Wheel, who sold for $275,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale, is owned by D. J. Stable LLC. With her first stakes win coming in the Debutante S. at Churchill Downs, Wonder Wheel is now 3-1-0 in four starts and has earned $510,725.
The dark bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm and Clearsky Farm. She is the second foal to race out of three-time stakes winner Wonder Gal, who herself was third in the BC Juvenile Fillies.
