Wicked T holds sway in MdSpWt debut
June 22, 2019
Wicked Strong notched his second First-Crop winner on Friday at Presque Isle Downs when Wicked T repelled several stiff challenges to win a five-furlong maiden special weight affair for 2-year-old fillies (VIDEO).
Breaking from the inside post, Wicked T took the lead a few jumps after the break, but was pressed immediately by My Doughnut. The two were locked together around the turn until Wicked T eased away in upper stretch. She was almost immediately confronted by a pair of new challengers, but held them off to secure the win by a half-length.
The winner races for Carl Hess, Jr. and was bred in Kentucky by Parkway Farm, Inc. Wicked T’s dam, the stakes winner Our Eleanor, produced a colt by fellow Spendthrift stallion Gormley this year.
First-Crop sire Wicked Strong is participating in Spendthrift’s Safe Bet program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
