Wicked Strong filly get first black type win in Hilltop S.
October 4, 2020
Evil Lyn’s big move on the final turn carried the 3-year-old Wicked Strong filly to a half-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Hilltop S. at Pimlico, marking the first stakes win for the bay distaffer owned by Paradise Farms Corp. and David Staudacher.
Wicked Strong is a top-five Second-Crop sire by winners, ahead of the likes of American Pharoah, Liam’s Map and Tonalist.
Evil Lyn, who broke from post 5 in the 11-horse field, was caught three wide around the first turn. Still well out on the track on the backstretch, she was sixth after a half-mile in :48.50. She accelerated quickly on the final bend, and despite still being in the three path, was on even with Caravel for the lead coming into the stretch. Evil Lyn powered past Caravel and wasn’t seriously threatened by a late-charging Vigilantes Way.
Evil Lyn was bred in Kentucky by Lantern Hill Farm LLC and Phil & Judy Needham. The bay filly is out of Miss Relentless and hails from the same family as Grade 1 winner and sire Candy Ride (ARG).
