Wicked Strong colt fetches $240,000 at F-T Midlantic
May 21, 2019
A striking dark bay colt from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Wicked Strong sold for $240,000 during the first session of the May 20-21 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in Training sale.
The colt was one of the top six of the session and the highest price paid of the day for a freshman sire.
Bred in Kentucky by Erv Woolsey & Ralph Kinder, the Wicked Strong colt, hip No. 131, was consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC and purchased by agent David Ingordo signing on behalf of Manganaro Bloodstock.
“We bought the Wicked Strong colt at Fasig-Tipton in October and he was a very nice colt up there,” explained Grassroots’ David McKathan.
The colt’s dam is the stakes-placed El Rebecca, while his third dam David’s Tobin produced multiple Grade 2 winner Dignitas and two other stakes winners.
Wicked Strong, who had his first winner as a sire in early April at Keeneland, is partaking in Spendthrift’s Safe Bet program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
