Whistle Stop newest stakes winner for Into Mischief
June 21, 2017
Penny and Mike Lauer’s homebred 3-year-old filly Whistle Stop got her first stakes victory on June 21 at Indiana Grand when the daughter of Into Mischief won the $100,000 Hoosier Breeders Sophomore S. by 2 3/4-lengths.
The bay filly was prominent throughout the 1 1/16-mile race, taking over the top spot in upper stretch then coming home convincingly in 1:44.92 on the fast main track.
“She has a big heart and she tries so hard,” said winning rider Marcelino Pedroza. “I thought for a second she was going to run off in the first turn but she finally relaxed and was nice and quiet with the other horses around her. She really responded when I asked her in the stretch.”
Mike Lauer, also the filly’s trainer, won this same race with Whistle Stop’s dam, Whistlin Jean, in 2010. With the victory, Whistle Stop is now 5-1-0 in 11 starts and has earned $186,223.
Into Mischief, the leading worldwide sire of 3-year-olds in 2017, has a total of 16 stakes horses and more than $4 million in progeny earnings to date.
