August 19, 2024
Vixen became Vekoma’s second winner in as many days with her 4 ¾-length maiden special weight score Aug. 19 on the turf at Ellis Park.
Vekoma now has 16 individual winners, the most for any First-Crop sire this year. He also had his fourth stakes horse on Aug. 18 when Viggiedal placed in the $150,000 Bolton’s Landing S. at Saratoga.
Vixen was prominent throughout Monday’s one-mile race, pressing El Joury through six furlongs before taking command at the top of the stretch. She drew off with authority through the lane to win with something in reserve.
The winner is owned by D. J. Stable LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Jason Edward Howard. She sold to her owner for $200,000 at the OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in April.
