November 11, 2021
Vino Rosso had the highest-priced weanling by a First-Crop sire during Wednesday’s opening session of the Keeneland November sale when hip No. 112 was secured by Bolter Bloodstock for $340,000.
Glennwood Farm, agent, was the consignor for the dark bay colt bred in Kentucky by John and Tanya Gunther.
“This colt makes me even more excited about Vino Rosso’s potential as a sire,” said Tanya Gunther after the colt left the ring.
The colt is out of the Tiznow mare Fair Huntress, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Kolo and Devil By Design, the latter the dam of American Oaks (G1) champ Competitionofideas.
Winner of the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) and champion older male that year, Vino Rosso has bred 420 mares in his first two seasons at Spendthrift. His fee for 2022 has been set at $20,000 live foal.
