Vino Rosso colt creates a buzz with stellar debut

Tuscan Sky roared through the Aqueduct stretch in the Saturday opener to score a 5 ¼-length maiden special weight victory in the career bow for the flashy gray son of Vino Rosso.

The well-bred 3-year-old colt hinted at bigger things to come with his powerful win. After tugging his way to the lead soon after the start, Tuscan Sky settled nicely into second entering the turn. He dropped back on the turn while moving off the rail and was four lengths from the lead turning for home. He kicked into high gear and blew by the leaders with just under a furlong to run to win going away in 1:10.51 for the six furlongs on a muddy racetrack.

Tuscan Sky is owned by Spendthrift Farm, who purchased him for $200,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Summer Yearling Sale in 2022. Bred by Sierra Farm, Tuscan Sky is out of the stakes winner South Andros and is a half-brother to Private Creed, a son of Jimmy Creed who has earned $1.3 million to date and won three stakes, topped by the Franklin-Simpson S. (G2) last year at Kentucky Downs.

Vino Rosso finished 2023 as the leading First-Crop Sire by both stakes horses and graded stakes horses, second by black type horses and third by progeny earnings. His 2024 fee is $25,000 S&N.
