Vekoma’s Mi Bago earns first stakes win in turf debut
October 5, 2024
Mi Bago became Vekoma’s third stakes winner from his first crop with a determined victory in Saturday’s $175,000 Algonquin S. at Woodbine.
The 2-year-old colt was making his first start on the grass for owner Gary Barber and trainer Mark Casse.
Mi Bago was never more than a few lengths from the top spot in the five-furlong Algonquin. He was fourth turning for home and still had three lengths to make up with a furlong to go. He cut into the deficit with every stride to get the lead few jumps from the wire, winning by a neck over Dare to Breeze.
The winner is now 2-0-0 in three starts and has earned $116,010. He was bred by Highclere.
Vekoma is the leading First-Crop sire by stakes winners, as well as stakes horses with seven and winners with 25.
