Vekoma’s latest winner wires field in Keeneland MdSpWt

October 24, 2024

Chatter, a 2-year-old Vekoma filly, overcame the outside post in a field of 10 to break her maiden going 6 ½-furlongs at Keeneland on Oct. 24.

The chestnut filly, who led the entire trip to score by a half-length, is the 28th winner for her sire. No other First-Crop stallion has more than 17 individual winners.

Chatter showed the way through solid fractions of :22.81 and :45.74. When set down for the stretch drive, she dug in gamely to hold off challengers on either side of her to secure the win in the $100,000 race.

Chatter is owned by WSS Racing and sold for $125,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She was bred in Kentucky by Gene Tenbrink and is out of the four-time stakes winner Flutterby.

Chatter is Vekoma’s second maiden special weight winner in the past five days, along with Rolando, who was a three-length winner in his Oct. 19 debut going six furlongs at Gulfstream Park. Owned by his breeder St. George Stables, LLC, Rolando is the first foal out of Mixteca, who is a half-sister to 2021 Eclipse Champion Older Mare Letruska.
