Vekoma filly rallies nicely for debut MdSpWt win

First-Crop sire Vekoma got his second winner on May 23 at Gulfstream Park when Speed of Sound took her five-furlong debut by a widening two lengths.

The 2-year-old filly was especially strong in the late stages. After breaking alertly, she tracked Popstyle until the top of the stretch, when she moved alongside and past the pacesetter with relative ease, then won going away in :57.75 on the Tapeta surface.

Speed of Sound is owned by Black Type Thoroughbreds, Swinbank Stables, LLC, Steve Adkisson and Campeche Stables and was bred in Kentucky by James and Kristine Cullen & Estate of Nick Strong.

Vekoma now has two winners from his first three starters. A graded stakes winner over each of his three campaigns from two through four, Vekoma stands the 2024 season for $15,000 live foal.
