Vekoma colt streaks to big win in $100,000 First State Dash
September 11, 2024
It’s Hammertime became Vekoma’s second stakes winner with a dominating performance in the $100,000 First State Dash at Delaware Park on Sept. 11.
The 2-year-old colt, who won his debut by eight lengths at the same track on June 5, led at every point of call in the First State. After a measured half-mile in :47.53, It’s Hammertime ran away from the field in the stretch to come home a five-length winner in 1:12.24 for the six furlongs on a fast track.
“He is a nice horse and a real pleasure to have in the barn,” winning trainer Gary Capuano said. “We have always been high on him, but we got more excited after the way he broke his maiden here. He beat a real nice horse in (runner-up) Re Markably today, so we are excited to see where he can take us. I am not sure where we are going to go next.”
It’s Hammertime is owned by Eagle Up Stables, London Reid Thoroughbreds and Non Stop Stable, the latter the colt’s breeder, along with ZWP Stable.
It’s Hammertime is one of 18 winners and five stakes horses by Vekoma, both the most for any First-Crop sire.
