First-crop sire Vekoma had the second-highest price of the Saturday session at Keeneland when hip No. 1498 sold for $775,000 to the partnership of St. Elias Stables, Talla Racing, Spendthrift Farm.
Spendthrift is also the breeder of the dark bay colt, who was consigned by Legacy Bloodstock.
“We are really excited to partner up with Spendthrift Farm, which we have done some stuff with in the past, and we are excited to partner with Talla Racing for the first time,” said St. Elias’s Monique Delk.
“He’s just beautiful–a beautiful physical and walk and he was very correct,” Delk said of the colt. “He looks special. And we like taking chances on first-year sires. It’s a lot of fun to see the new babies coming about.”
The colt’s dam, Summer of Fun, was a stakes winner and placed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). All three of her starters are winners.
With an average of $169,500 from 26 lots sold to date at the sale, Vekoma is averaging more than 11 times his stud fee.
