Undefeated Siesta Key tallies first stakes win in thrilling fashion
September 7, 2024
Into Mischief’s Siesta Key nosed out Aristotle after a stirring stretch duel to win the $125,000 Kitten’s Joy S. Sept. 7 at Colonial Downs.
The 2-year-old colt was making his turf debut after winning an off-the-grass one-mile maiden special weight race Aug. 1 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, his career debut.
Like he did last month, Siesta Key bided his time near the back of the pack through the first five furlongs of Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile contest. He was asked to pick up the pace midway on the turn and ultimately split horses in upper stretch. In a close drive with Aristotle, Siesta Key got the better of his foe to secure the win by a nose.
With his two wins, Siesta Key has earned $94,200 for owner/breeder Godolphin. The regally-bred bay is out of Cocoa Beach (CHI), who was the 2008 Horse of the Year in her native country, then went on to win the Beldame (G1) and Matriarch (G1) before finishing second to Zenyatta in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1) here in the United States.
Siesta Key is the 26th stakes winner of 2024 for Into Mischief, who is in his familiar top spot on the General Sire list.
