Undefeated Authentic colt scores eye-catching 14-length victory
November 30, 2024
Alwajeeh scored his third win in as many starts with a dominating performance in a 1,600-meter contest for 2-year-olds on Nov. 29 at Riyadh racetrack in Saudi Arabia.
The son of Authentic, who won a stakes race over the same track and distance in his previous start, broke well in Friday’s one-turn contest and vied for the early lead down the backstretch. After racing in hand for about six furlongs, Alwajeeh sprinted away from the field at the top of the stretch and widened his margin all the way to the wire despite being eased in the final sixteenth.
Alwajeeh is owned by King Abdullah Bin AAziz & Sons’ KAS Stable, who purchased him for $235,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, the chestnut colt is out of R Heat Lightning, winner of the Spinaway S. (G1) at two and both the Davona Dale S. (G2) and Gulfstream Oaks (G2) at three. R Heat Lightning is the dam of Japanese Group winner Aster Pegasus.
Alwajeeh is one of four stakes horses for Authentic. A top-10 First-Crop sire, Authentic has 19 individual winners and $1.35 million in progeny earnings to date this year. His 2025 fee was recently announced at $25,000 live foal.
