Unbeaten Cross Traffic colt gets first stakes win
October 1, 2018
Capocostello won the Clasico Familia Fernandez Prado S. on Sept. 30 at Hipodromo Presidente Remon to remain unbeaten in three starts.
Cross Traffic, who had his first U. S. Grade 1 winner on Oct. 7 when Jaywalk scored in the Frizette S. (G1) at Belmont Park, has four stakes winners and six stakes horses from his first crop.
Going 1,200 meters (about six furlongs), Capocostello was expected to run big, so much so that he ran as a non-wagering entity in the six-horse field of 2-year-olds. Hung three-wide around the turn while dueling for the lead, Capocostello was set down for the stretch drive and drew off impressively to win by about six lengths.
Kentucky-bred Capocostello is out of the Successful Appeal mare Ad Litem, who is a half-sister to the multiple graded stakes-winning mare Fantastic Style and is from the same family as multiple Grade 1 winner Reloy.
