Three Vino Rosso colts surpass $200,000 mark at Fasig’s July sale

Eclipse champion and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Vino Rosso had an excellent day during Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton July sale auction, with a trio of colts from the first crop of the Spendthrift stallion bringing at least $200,000.
Vino Rosso wrapped up the one-day sale with an average of $135,000 from 11 lots sold.
The top result of the day for Vino Rosso came from Four Star Sales, agent for Westbury Stables, when hip No. 130 sold to Kenny McPeek, agent for $250,000. The chestnut colt is out of Melody Girl, a daughter of Unbridled’s Song who is a half-sister to stakes-placed The Bear Vow.
“I am really pleased with how all of our first-year stallions have done so far,” Spendthrift’s Ned Toffey said. “Vino has three horses over $200,000, one of which we bought, and we were happy to get for that.”
Toffey was referring to the farm’s purchase of hip No. 46, consigned by Greenfield Farms, agent for Sierra Farm. The colt is the second foal out of the stakes winner South Andros. The fourth dam in this deep female family is three-time champion Eternal Search.
Hip No. 36, consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent, also sold for $200,000 and again to McPeek. The chestnut juvenile’s third dam Drina produced multiple Grade 1 winner Spain and graded winners Puerto Banus and Fantastic Spain.
