Two debut MdSpWt winners now for Thousand Words, as 2yo colt scores at Woodbine
May 13, 2024
Thousand Words picked up his second winner from his first crop on May 12 at Woodbine when Sol de Verano led every step of the way in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds.
The dark bay colt, who was making his debut from the inside post, broke extremely well and led narrowly through a quarter-mile in :22.42. With a trio of challengers within a length at the top of the stretch, Sol de Verano dug in gamely to defeat Admiral Nelson by a head in :52.57 on the synthetic surface.
Sol de Verano is owned by Alberto Campos-Cota, Joseph Freeman and Nathan Squires and purchased by the latter at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton October Yearling sale. Bred in Kentucky by Cambrey Farm LLC and Jason Hewitt, Sol de Verano is the second foal out of the Uncle Mo mare Thank You Note.
Thousand Words is one of just three First-Crop sires with multiple winners to date. The Spendthrift stallion, who stands for $5,000 in 2024, has 66 named foals from his first crop and will have his next runners on May 17 in maiden special weight races at Churchill Downs and Gulfstream Park.
