The Queens M G comes up huge in Davona Dale S. (G2)
March 2, 2025

Thousand Words has a likely Kentucky Oaks contender after The Queens M G dominated Saturday’s Davona Dale S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park, drawing off to win by 2 ¾-lengths and up her Oaks qualifying points to a total of 43.5, currently fifth on the list. The top 14 point-getters qualify to start in the May 2nd Oaks at Churchill Downs.
A nine-length winner of the Adirondack S. (G3) last August, The Queens M G was at the top of her game once again in Saturday’s one-mile race. Breaking from the rail in the five-horse field, The Queens M G held her spot on the inside while racing within two lengths of the lead down the backstretch.
Around the turn, La Cara took the lead while three-wide, with The Queens M G slipping up the inside past pacesetter Madeline’s Promise to set up the stretch battle. La Cara had the lead turning into the stretch, but The Queens M G was going the better of the two and took command in midstretch. She widened her lead under a hand ride to finish in 1:37.85 on a fast track.
“Her last race (third in the Feb. 1 Forward Gal S.) was very, very good. I thought she would move forward huge,” said the filly’s trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. “I didn’t know she’d move forward enough to win it, but I thought how she ran last time gave me confidence she’d moved forward from two to three. She’s not a big filly. The obvious question is: was she early and precocious? But after the last race, I was very happy with her run.”
Joseph said The Queens M G is likely to return in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) Mar. 29 in her last prep before heading to Kentucky.
Owned by C2 Racing Stable LLC and Mathis Stable LLC, the winner is 4-0-2 in eight starts and has earned $422, 480. The dark bay filly was bred in Kentucky by T.F. VanMeter, Samuel Hernandez, Jesus Torres, and Justin Vinalay.
A top-six First-Crop sire in 2024, Thousand Words has a pair of graded stakes winners in 2025. He is standing the 2025 season for $12,500 live foal.
