Temple City’s Pass the Plate rolls late to take 2022 stakes debut
January 23, 2022
Pass the Plate showed an impressive turn of foot in the stretch to win Saturday’s $100,000 Marie G. Krantz Memorial S. at Fair Grounds by a head over Lovely Ride.
The 5-year-old daughter of Temple City won the 2020 Pago Hop S. in similar style over the same turf course and now sports a record of 5-2-7 in 21 starts.
After getting bumped at the start, Pass the Plate found herself last in the field of seven. She continued to trail until midway on the final bend, when she launched a four-wide wide bid. She was full of run after straightening for home, surging past horses then wearing down a stubborn Lovely Ride to get the victory.
Pass the Plate is owned by her breeder Silverton Hill Farm and has now earned $434,224. She is the second stakes horse this year for Temple City, who stands the 2022 season for $5,000 S&N.
