Temple City 2yo wins Nownownow S. in black type debut

It Can Be Done sprinted to the front soon after the break and never lost the lead in Sunday’s $150,000 Nownownow S. at Monmouth Park, winning the one-mile turf race by 2 ½-lengths.

The dark bay 2-year-old by Temple City was making his stakes and two-turn debut following a sharp six-furlong maiden score on the main track just two weeks ago.

With Jose Ferrer in the irons, It Can Be Done sped from his outside post in the field of eight to take command in the first furlong. He opened up as much as a five-length margin on the backstretch before Light Us Up cut the lead to a length nearing the homestretch. It Can Be Done re-broke and had plenty left in the final furlong, with stakes winner Mischievous Dream his closest foe at the wire.

“We only sprinted him before this but the first two starts we had blinkers on him. The key was taking them off,” said trainer Gregg Sacco. “He’s bred to run all day. He’s a medium-sized horse with a great length of stride. From his gallops in the morning we didn’t think distance would be a limitation.”

It Can Be Done has now earned $130,500 and is 2-1-1 in four starts for owner/breeder Red Oak Stable. His dam Gotham City Girl also produced stakes winner Stand and Salute.

It Can Be Done topped off a terrific week for Temple City that included stakes Omaha City, Grade 2-placed Another Mystery, stakes-placed Temple of Zoom, and a trio of maiden special weight winners.
