Strict Compliance makes the grade in Boiling Springs S. (G3)
September 5, 2015
Strict Compliance became Into Mischief’s fifth graded stakes winner on Saturday with a thrilling nose victory in the $100,000 Boiling Springs S. (G3) at Monmouth Park.
Into Mischief, with seven stakes horses to date in 2015, has also had 2-year-olds sell for up to $575,000 at auction this year and has 58 yearlings cataloged in the upcoming Keeneland September Yearling sale.
Strict Compliance needed every bit of the nine furlongs to seize victory. Racing several lengths off the pace, Joe Bravo began a three-wide move on the final turn and set his sights on pacesetter Isabella Sings. Those two staged a nip and tuck battle in the final furlong, with Strict Compliance proving just good enough (VIDEO).
The final time on the firm turf was a very good 1:46.68.
“I had to move a little earlier than I wanted,” said Bravo. “Paco (jockey Lopez aboard Isabella Sings) did a great job slowing things down up front. Going into the race, I thought I couldn’t lose. At the 1/8th pole I wasn’t as sure, but when you ride for (trainer) Chad Brown you know you’re sitting on a good horse and this filly really kicked it in when it mattered.”
Owned by Klaravich Stables & W.H. Lawrence, Strict Compliance upped her mark to 4-1-1 in seven starts and has earned $302,600.
Strict Compliance is out the Grand Slam mare Diva Dyna and is a half-sister to the stakes winner Tiree. The winner was a $100,000 purchase at the 2014 OBS Horses of Racing Age in June.
