Stormcast adds to Mitole’s red-hot August results
August 19, 2023
Top-three First-Crop sire Mitole got his fifth winner of the month on Aug. 19 when Stormcast dominated a filed of 2-year-old fillies in a seven-furlong turf maiden special weight race at Woodbine.
The dark bay juvenile came into the race with a stakes-placing in the $134,000 My Dear Girl S. last month, and handled Saturday’s maiden foes with relative ease. She had a narrow advantage in the first three furlongs, then widened away at will and cantered under the wire a 3 ½-length winner. She posted an excellent final time of 1:20.85 on the firm turf.
Bred in Canada by Dr. Tan Hyka, Stormcast is owned by K E M Racing Stable. She is out of the multiple stakes winner Scolara and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Prize Fight.
Mitole’s nine winners overall is second only to Maximus Mischief on this year’s First-Crop sire list. The 2019 Eclipse Champion Sprinter and four-time Grade 1 winner that year stood this past season at Spendthrift for $15,000.
