Stakes winner Alwajeeh, highly-regarded Kalea Bay top big weekend for Authentic
September 29, 2024
Authentic moved well into the top-10 on the 2024 First-Crop sire list with his first overseas stakes winner and a blowout maiden winner at Santa Anita over the final weekend of September.
In Saudi Arabia, regally-bred Alwajeeh ran his record to a perfect two-for-two with a game victory in the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia Challenge at 1,600 meters, approximately one mile.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC, Alwajeeh sold for $235,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale. The chestnut colt is out of R Heat Lightning, winner of the Spinaway S. (G1) at two and both the Davona Dale S. (G2) and Gulfstream Oaks (G2) at three. R Heat Lightning is the dam of Japanese Group winner Aster Pegasus.
Also on September 28, at Santa Anita Park, Kalea Bay lived up to his pre-race billing with an 8 ½-length maiden special weight win at six furlongs. The chestnut colt led the entire trip, widening his margin at every point of call, and earned a very good Beyer Speed Figure of 85.
Kalea Bay is the 11th winner for top-six First-Crop sire Authentic.
Kalea Bay is owned by SF Racing LLC, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables LLC, Stonestreet Stables LLC, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Robert E. Masterson, Tom J. Ryan, Waves Edge Capital LLC and Catherine Donovan. Bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Equine, Kalea Bay sold to his owners for $700,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
