Stakes double for Malibu Moon

With a 2 3/4-length win in the $50,000 Governor’s Cup H., Managed Account became the first of what would be two stakes winners on the Friday night card at Charles Town Races (VIDEO).

Along with Strike the Moon, who won the $50,000 Municipalities Mayors three races later on the card, Managed Account is one of 11 stakes winners in 2013 by his sire, led by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Orb. Malibu Moon is currently fourth on this year’s General Sire list, with $8.77 million in progeny purse earnings.

Managed Account, the 4-5 favorite in the 1 1/8-mile Governor’s Cup, made the decisive move to the lead after sitting in second for six furlongs, and was never threatened in the stretch.

2013 has been an excellent year for 4-year-old Managed Account, going 5-3-0 in 10 starts, including a stakes win in last month’s $80,000 Governor’s Day S. at Delaware Park. Overall the Midwest Thoroughbreds colorbearer has earned $263,683.
