June 9, 2020
The Breeders’ Cup announced on June 9th that Spendthrift Farm president Eric Gustavson was one of 19 individuals elected to serve as a Breeders’ Cup Member. Gustavson will serve a four-year term on the Board of Directors, which meets annually in July and oversees the organization’s activities.
Eric joined the family farm with B. Wayne Hughes at Spendthrift in 2006 and has overseen Spendthrift’s extensive growth going from one homebred stallion to currently having the largest roster in North America.
Gustavson led the team that brought such industry innovations as the “Share the Upside Program” and making racehorse ownership available to the masses through its investment in the micro-share start up “My Racehorse”.
“Spendthrift will continue to be an advocate for horses, breeders, and owners at all levels so we can have the most prosperous environment possible to innovate and grow this sport we are passionate about,” said Gustavson. “Thanks to all who considered me worthy to serve on the Breeders’ Cup Board.”
