Soze scores sharp debut win for Maximus Mischief
August 4, 2023
Maximus Mischief now has eight First-Crop winners after Soze tallied a handy two-length maiden special weight victory on Aug. 4 at Monmouth Park.
Maximus Mischief is the first Freshman Sire to have eight individual winners, and he is second on the list by progeny earnings, behind fellow Spendthrift sire Mitole.
Soze, who was favored in his debut on Friday, was a close third in the first quarter-mile. He inched nearer to the lead on the turn and took over willingly when asked. He scampered away at the top of the stretch and was going along comfortably in the final furlong to finish the 5 ½-furlongs in 1:06.08 on fast track.
Soze is trained by Joe Orseno for D. J. Stable LLC. The dark bay colt sold as a yearling for $75,000 and was bred in Kentucky by Brian Kahn. Soze’s dam Dominating Woman was bred to Goldencents for 2024.
