Six-figure 2YOs: Spendthrift freshman sires at OBS
March 13, 2019
Spendthrift Farm’s First-year sires Normandy Invasion, Palace and Race Day all had their first 2-year-olds go through the auction ring Tuesday at the March 12-13 OBS Sale of 2-year-olds in training, and all three sires had at least one lot bring six-figures during the session, all averaging better than 16 times their respective stud fees.
Race Day led the way with hip No. 232, consigned by Top Line Sales, going for $125,000 to Jake Ballis on behalf of Jeffrey Kallenberg. The colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed Rockport Street.
Normandy Invasion and Palace were both represented by juveniles bringing $100,000. Charles Boden was the winning bidder for hip No. 207, a Normandy Invasion colt whose dam Harlan Light is a sister to a pair of stakes winners. Palace’s hip No. 116 went to Hideyuki Mori. Named Andthentherewasme, the colt’s second dam Madam Fireplace was a three-time stakes winner.
Wednesday’s closing session of the sale features three lots by Palace, and one each by Race Day and Normandy Invasion.
