Shimmering Aspen repeats in Delaware Park Distaff S.

Malibu Moon’s 5-year-old daughter Shimmering Aspen won the $100,000 Tax Free Shopping Distaff S. for the second consecutive year on Saturday, coming four-wide on the turn and overhauling Queen Nekia in mid-stretch to win by 1 ½-lengths.

Shimmering Aspen has won five stakes in her career and nine of 20 starts overall while earning $415,660 for Hillwood Stable LLC. Shimmering Moon wrapped up a big week for Malibu Moon that also saw Come Dancing win the Gallant Bloom H. (G2) and Amazonian place in the Ballerina S. (G3).

In post five of six, Shimmering Aspen set a few lengths off the pace down the backstretch, began her advance while well off the fence rounding the turn, the wore down Queen Nekia to win going away in 1:11.28 for the six furlongs on the main track.

Shimmmering Aspen was a $200,000 buy at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic October Yearling sale. He was bred by Nancy Terhune, Ernest Frohboese and Candyland Farm. Her dam Aspenglow was a four-time stakes winner herself.
