Gould’s Gold, who is campaigned by the same connections as 2024 Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, joined his famous stablemate as a black type winner on Aug. 24th, as the 3-year-old colt by Goldencents captured the $200,000 Smarty Jones S. at Parx for trainer Kenny McPeek and owners 4 G Racing, Lance Gasaway & Magdalena Racing.

A longtime workmate of Mystik Dan – also by Goldencents, Gould’s Gold got used to the heavy competition in the mornings. In the afternoons, the rising colt earned his breakthrough victory in the Smarty Jones, after placings in races like the Ohio Derby (G3), Sir Barton S. at Pimlico & Bath House Row S. at Oaklawn.

Gould’s Gold earned a 91 Beyer for his win in the 1 1/16-mile race that serves as a local prep for next month’s $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) – a likely next start for the gray colt. Bred by Rock Ridge Thoroughbreds, Gould’s Gold was a $100,000 yearling purchase for his connections at the Fasig-Tipton October sale.

Goldencents currently ranks as a top 5 active General Sire in North America in 2024, only behind his sire Into Mischief, Gun Runner, Justify and Quality Road – all sires that stand for stud fees well into the six figures.
