Regulatory Risk the first Kentucky Oaks (G1) starter for Omaha Beach
April 30, 2024
Omaha Beach, the leading Second-Crop sire of 2024, will have his first starter in Friday’s $1.5 million Kentucky Oaks (G1) when Klaravich Stables Inc.’s Regulatory Risk breaks from post 4 in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-old fillies.
The Oaks, which is race 11 at 5:51 pm ET, drew a full field of 14, as well as two also-eligibles.
“I think the inside draw was key for her to try and save ground,” said trainer Chad Brown succinctly after the post position draw.
Regulatory Risk, who will be ridden for the first time by Jose Ortiz, Jr., will race without blinkers for the first time in four starts.
The bay filly was most recently a clear second to Oaks entrant Where’s My Ring in the April 6 Gazelle S. (G3) at Aqueduct. The Gazelle is run at the same distance at the Oaks. Overall, Regulatory Risk is 1-2-0 in five starts and has earned $114,274.
Regulatory Risk sold for $235,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale, where she was consigned by Upson Downs Farm, who co-bred the bay filly with Louis W. Wright.
Omaha Beach leads the Second-Crop sire list with over $1.7 million in progeny earnings, and also tops the list by black type horses (10) and black type winners (3).
