Regalo kicks off stellar day for Maximus Mischief at Colonial Downs
August 11, 2024
Regalo’s gallant victory in the $100,000 Petramalo Mile S. was the first of two straight stakes winners for Maximus Mischief on Sunday’s card at Colonial Downs, followed up in the next race by Carmelina in the Penny Chenery S.
Maximus Mischief is a top-five Second-Crop sire by winners, wins and progeny earnings, and leads all his peers by stakes winners (6) and stakes horses (12).
Rainy Skies broke on top in Sunday’s one-turn race for 3-year-olds, with Regalo pressing him through a quarter-mile in :23 flat. Regalo took over before hitting the half-way point, and Awesome Ruta joined him to set the stage for a dramatic battle. The pair were nearly inseparable the rest of the way, slugging it out the entire length of the stretch before Regalo won the battle by a nose.
The final time on a fast main track was 1:33.71, just .01 off the track record.
After scoring his first stakes win, Regalo is now 3-1-0 in six starts and has earned $144,000 for Goodfella’s LLC. The bay was bred by Sean Curtin in Kentucky.
