Regally-bred Civetta takes Wait A While S. for first black type win
November 28, 2024
Into Mischief’s 2-year-old filly Civetta threaded her way between horses with a furlong to run to take the $115,000 Wait A While S. by a neck on Thanksgiving Day at Gulfstream Park.
After a fairly clean trip for five furlongs, Civetta found herself bottled up behind horses with a quarter-mile to go in the 7 ½-furlong turf contest. After turning for home, jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. shifted his mount to the outside and Civetta responded with swift turn of foot to out-pace Winning Streep to the finish line.
“She ran well, she did it nicely, and it’s great to get a stakes win for her being from that family,” said trainer Brendan Walsh. “She’s had herself a very good little 2-year-old campaign and hopefully we can build on that next year. She seemed to like the track, so maybe we’ll run her back at Gulfstream again. Probably give her a little break and bring her back in something towards the end of the meet.”
Owned by her breeder Godolphin LLC, Civetta has a record of 2-1-0 in four starts, three of them stakes races, and has earned $182,815.
Civetta is a half-sister to Santin, who earned over $1.9 million with wins in the Turf Classic (G1) and Arlington Million (G1). Their dam Sentiero Italia was a two-time Grade 2 winner herself and is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Ashkal Way.
Into Mischief, who will again be the leading sire in North America this year for the sixth consecutive year, has a total of 32 stakes winners and a record $33.2 million in progeny earnings to date.
