Raging Torrent becomes Maximus Mischief’s crop-high seventh first crop winner after an impressive debut win in a Maiden Special Weight race at Del Mar on July 23rd.
Raging Torrent was bred by Rodney J. Winkler and Alfonso Mazzetti, out of the Violence mare Violent Wave. The colt was sold for $75,000 at OBS spring 2-year-old sale earlier this year to Great Friends Stable and Mark Davis. Jockey Antonio Fresu was up for trainer Doug O’Neill.
At 9-1 post time odds, Raging Torrent remained in good position in the five-furlong dirt race, chasing the leaders from the third position for the majority of the race. On the turn for home, the colt went wide and passed the others easily, all with no encouragement from Fresu, as he had lost the whip on the turn. Raging Torrent won by 2 1/4 lengths in a time of 57.71.
Raging Torrent’s victory moved Maximus Mischief to No. 2 on the First-Crop Sires List and No. 1 by Winners.
