The May 17-18 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale wrapped up on a high note for Brody’s Cause on Tuesday when a colt from the stallion’s second crop sold for $290,000.
Larry Zap, agent for Mike Mellen, was the winning bidder for hip No. 370, who was consigned by the team of Carlos Estrada and Sarah Estrada-Brok under the Sterling Thoroughbreds moniker.
Purchased as a yearling at the F-T October Sale, the chestnut represented their first venture in the pinhooking business.
“He had great balance with a big walk,” Estrada said of his decision to buy the colt as a yearling. “I fell in love with him. I said, ‘I want to have him.’”
The colt is out of the Johannesburg mare Candy d’Oro, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Julia Tuttle, the dam of Grade 1 winner Tom’s d’Etat. His third dam Candy Girl is the dam of champion Candy Ride (ARG).
Brody’s Cause, who stands this year for $5,000, is represented by Kalypso, winner of the Santa Ynez S. (G2) and runner-up in the Las Virgenes S. (G2).
