Post 16 for undefeated Magnum Moon in KY Derby (G1)
May 1, 2018
Magnum Moon will put his unbeaten streak on the line in Saturday’s $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1) when he breaks from post 16 in the 144th Run for the Roses.
The 3-year-old is attempting to become the second Derby winner sired by Malibu Moon. Ironically, the Spendthrift stallion’s first winner, Orb in 2013, also broke from post 16.
Magnum Moon, the 6-1 third choice on the morning line, has been spectacular in his four starts to date. After a maiden and allowance win in Florida, the bay colt dominated both the Rebel S. (G2) and Arkansas Derby (G1).
Trained by Todd Pletcher for Robert and Lawana Low, Magnum Moon has earned $1,177,800, one of seven of Malibu Moon’s millionaires and 15 Grade 1 winners.
As he has been in all four of his starts, Magnum Moon will be ridden on Saturday by Luis Saez.
