Post 15 in Derby 146 for Ny Traffic
September 2, 2020
Cross Traffic’s multiple graded stakes-placed colt Ny Traffic drew post 15 for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby (G1), which will have a field of 18 3-year-olds.
Ny Traffic, the active leading earner for his top-five Third-Crop sire, has had a hard-luck season with three runner-up finishes in graded stakes, most recently by just a nose to Authentic in the Haskell Inv. (G1). The gray/roan colt arrived at Churchill Downs on Sept. 1 and on Wednesday will get his first view of the track since finishing second in the May 23 Matt Winn S. (G3).
“It’s a good post,” said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. after the draw. “Hopefully, he will break clean and (jockey) Paco (Lopez) can get him into a forward position without rushing him.”
Since the Haskell, Ny Traffic has been working extremely well at Saratoga, with his latest two five-furlong works coming in under one minute.
Ny Traffic is owned by John Fanelli, Cash is King LLC, LC Racing and Paul Braverman and was bred by Brian Culnan and has earned $565,470.
The $3 million Derby is the last of 14 races at Churchill Downs on Saturday and will be televised live on NBC, with a post time of 7:01 ET.
