Out of Orbit glides to Saratoga Dew S. victory
August 9, 2019
Malibu Moon’s Out of Orbit led all the way in Thursday’s $100,000 Saratoga Dew S. to earn her first stakes win in the 1 1/8-mile contest.
Making her first stakes start, the 4-year-old filly was sent to the front right out of the gate from her inside post. Setting a sensible half-mile of :49.01 and six furlongs in a relaxed 1:13.99, she had plenty left in the tank and opened up to win by 2 ¼-lengths while never being seriously threatened.
“I was a little concerned [about stretching out to 1 1/8 miles], but she came in here and really looked good and really was training great,” said trainer Phil Serpe.
The winner is owned and bred by New York stalwarts Chester and Mary Broman. She was the first of three named foals out of Kibosh, a stakes-placed winner of over $200,000.
Malibu Moon’s seven stakes winners and 20 stakes horses this year are topped by Ruffian S. (G2) and Distaff H. (G3) winner Come Dancing.
