Omaha Beach’s Kopion lives up to billing in sparkling debut
November 27, 2023
Kopion made her debut in stellar fashion Nov. 26 at Del Mar, cruising to a 3 ¾-length maiden special weight victory while never being asked to run at any point in the 6 ½-furlong race.
The 2-year-old daughter of Omaha Beach is owned by Spendthrift Farm and is the 21st overall winner for the top-five First-Crop sire.
After a quick start, Kopion settled back off the leaders, who went the first quarter-mile in :22.02. The chestnut filly gained ground while three-wide on the turn, then took command at the top of the stretch. Under a hand ride the rest of the way, she drew off to the easiest of wins in 1:16.13 on a fast main track.
Spendthrift purchased Kopion for $270,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She was bred in Kentucky by Tall Oaks Farm. Her unraced dam Galloping Ami has an excellent record as a broodmare, producing Canadian champion 3-year-old colt Amis Gizmo, graded stakes winner Ami’s Flatter and the stakes winner Aragorn Ami. Galloping Ami has a yearling colt by Spendthrift’s Authentic.
