Omaha Beach, the leading First-Crop sire by sales average, had one of the top colts Monday at the Fasig-Tipton Sale of 2-year-olds in Training when hip No. 93 brought a top bid of $425,000.
Consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables, agent, the striking chestnut went to southern California-based trainer Mark Glatt.
“He’s a beautiful horse who worked well,” Glatt said. “The Omaha Beaches have presented themselves well. He had a strong bottom side and he looked like an athletic horse. He just looked like a horse you could go right on with. We are really pleased to get him.”
The colt, who was bred by Castleton Lyons and Kilboy Estate, is out of multiple stakes winner Catch My Fancy and is a half-brother to stakes winners Dubini and What a Catch, as well as to Catch the Moon (Malibu Moon), who produced Grade I winner Girvin and graded winner and multiple Grade One-placed Midnight Bourbon.
Through this point of the 2-year-old auction season, Omaha Beach’s offspring have averaged $236,857. The Spendthrift stallion has had an immediate impact with his juveniles on track as well, already accounting for impressive MdSpWt winner Cynane and the European Group 3-placed filly Launch.
