Older Male Eclipse Award goes to Vino Rosso
January 24, 2020
Vino Rosso’s superlative Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) propelled the new Spendthrift Farm stallion to be named the top Older Male Horse at the 2019 Eclipse Awards ceremony held Thursday evening at Gulfstream Park.
A son of 2-time Horse of the Year Curlin, Vino Rosso joins the 2020 Spendthrift roster at $30,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
Vino Rosso won the Wood Memorial (G2) at three, but elevated himself this past year. In addition to the Breeders’ Cup win, he took the Gold Cup at Santa Anita (G1) and also won the Stymie S. at Aqueduct. He also was beaten just a nose in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1). He retires with earnings of $4,803,125.
Bred by John Gunther, Vino Rosso is out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Mythical Bride, who is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner and sire Commissioner and Grade 3 winner Laugh Track.
