OBS Thursday: Vekoma strikes with $750,000 colt

Vekoma had one of the top three lots during Thursday’s session of the OBS Spring 2-year-olds in Training sale when hip No. 787 lit up the board for $750,000.
Midway through the 2-year-old auction season, Vekoma’s sales average of $223,750 is nearly 12 times his bred-on stud fee.
Consigned by Ocala Stud, Agent and bred by Annemarie Toomey, the subject colt was purchased by Maverick Racing and CHC, Inc. and is out of Big Thrill, who has three foals to race, all winners of more than $100,000.
In addition to leading the Second-Crop sire list by a wide margin, Vekoma is in the top 10 on the 2025 General Sire list and leads all sires by percentage of black type horses from starts.
