Ny Traffic secures his spot for the 2020 Triple Crown
May 24, 2020
Cross Traffic’s multiple graded stakes performer Ny Traffic took another big step towards competing in this year’s revamped Triple Crown with a solid second-place effort in Saturday’s $150,000 Matt Winn S. (G3) at Churchill Downs.
Cross Traffic, a leading Third-Crop Sire in several categories, kicked off 2020 with Capocostello getting a Grade 1 win on New Year’s Day.
Ny Traffic, who placed in both the Louisiana Derby (G2) and Risen Star S. (G2) earlier this year, now has earned a total of 70 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1), virtually assuring himself of a spot in the Sept. 5 Run for the Roses.
Ny Traffic was bested by just a length by the late-charging Maxfield, widely considered a top Derby contender, in the 1 1/16-mile Matt Winn. Ny Traffic is 2-2-2 in eight starts with earnings of $365,470 for John Fanelli, Cash is King LLC, LC Racing and Paul Braverman. He was bred in New York by Brian Culnan.
