Ny Traffic scorches foes in the Affirmed Success S.
April 29, 2022
Cross Traffic’s veteran stakes performer Ny Traffic was the class of the April 29 Affirmed Success S. at Belmont Park, strolling home by nearly four lengths in a very quick 1:09.54 for the six furlongs on the main track.
Ny Traffic, 5, took the lead right from the break and never was headed. After rolling through the first half-mile in :45.50 with a one-length lead, he opened up in the stretch and was widening his lead all the way to the wire despite being eased up in the final sixteenth.
Ny Traffic earned a Beyer Speed figure of 100 for the effort, his third triple-digit number of his career.
“He just loves this track,” said John Fanelli, who co-owns Ny Traffic with Cash is King LLC, LC Racing LLC, Paul Braverman and Team Hanley. Ny Traffic was bred by Brian Culnan.
“Cutting back in distance, I was confident he’d have the stamina to stay on,” winning trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. added. “Once he made the lead, I felt much more comfortable. I was very uneasy with the draw (post 1) and didn’t think he would have that kind of speed. Once he broke on the lead, I felt much more confident.”
Joseph indicated the $200,000 Commentator S., at Belmont on May 30, could be next on Ny Traffic’s agenda.
Ny Traffic has now earned $815,740. As a 3-year-old he finished second in the Haskell Inv. (G1), Louisiana Derby (G2), and Matt Winn S. (G3).
