NY Traffic comes back in style at Belmont Park
May 3, 2021
Cross Traffic’s Grade 1-placed colt Ny Traffic made a triumphant return to the races Sunday at Belmont Park with a stylish 6 ¾-length score in a seven-furlong allowance contest (WATCH RACE).
Away from the races since running in the Preakness S. (G1) in October, Ny Traffic couldn’t have been more impressive on Sunday. He hooked up in an early speed duel with Golani Brigade, and those two sped through a half-mile in :45.43 while going some eight lengths clear of the field. At the top of the stretch, Golani Brigade began to wilt, but Ny Traffic was just getting geared up and drew away at will to stop the timer in an excellent 1:21.52 while being eased up late.
Ny Traffic exploits in 2020 included seconds in the Haskell Inv. (G1), Louisiana Derby (G2), and the Matt Winn S. (G3). Sunday’s victory upped his record to 3-3-2 in 12 starts, with earnings of $612,220 for owners John Fanelli, Cash Is King LLC, LC Racing, Paul Braverman and Team Hanley.
Ny Traffic was bred in the Empire State by Brian Culnan.
Cross Traffic, the sire of champions Jaywalk and Cross Dancer, stands the 2021 season for $7,500 S&N.
