Top-five First-Crop sire Omaha Beach scored his sixth winner on Saturday at Ellis Park when Normandy Hero won a seven-furlong maiden special weight race in front-running style [WATCH RACE].
The 2-year-old colt recovered quickly from an awkward start to take command early. He had a one-length lead through the first half-mile that went in :45.36, and after repelling a challenge turning for home, hit the wire a comfortable 1 ½-length winner in 1:23.17 on a fast track.
Normandy Hero is owned by Naoya Yoshida and was bred in Kentucky by his owner in partnership with Brock, Collins, Crawford, Doyle and Vanbeek.
Normandy Hero is the second foal out of Swan of the Nile. His fourth dam Dear Birdie produced Belmont S. (G1) and Travers S. (G1) winner Birdstone and Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Bird Town.
