Mor Spirit filly wins handily at first asking
August 11, 2022
Copper Moon leveled off nicely at the top of the stretch and rolled home to a 3 ½-length maiden special weight win on Aug. 10 to become the fourth winner for First-Crop sire Mor Spirit.
The 2-year-old filly was sharp out of the gate in the five-furlong contest and wrested the lead from Troska in the first furlong. Around the turn, Copper Moon maintained her lead on her own, then easily pulled away from the field after turning for home to win comfortably over the sloppy Evangeline Downs racetrack (WATCH RACE).
Copper Moon is owned by Donna Stumpf and Corale Richards, who bred the chestnut filly along with JE and Beverly Jumonville and Cindy Sharp. Richards is also the filly’s trainer.
Mor Spirit’s first winner, Velocitor, came back to place in the July 17 Victoria S. at Woodbine. Another of the Spendthrift stallion’s winners, Mor Lively, is entered in this Sunday’s $125,000 Ellis Park Debutante S.
