Mor Spirit 2yo debuts a gallant winner
September 25, 2022
Smooth Scat led most of the way in his first lifetime start on Sept. 25 at Prairie Meadows, scoring a game three-quarter length victory in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds (WATCH RACE).
Mor Spirit now has 10 First-Crop winners, including three over the past three days. He also got his second stakes horse of the year on Sunday when Mor Lively was second in the E L Gaylord Memorial S. at Remington Park.
After breaking tardy, Smooth Scat rushed up for the lead from his inside post. El Mongo pressed his all the way around the turn and down the stretch, with Smooth Scat never relinquishing the top spot in the final three furlongs.
The winner is owned and bred by Lynden Branch and is out of the Scat Daddy mare Scat Sister.
Mor Spirit, who stood the 2022 season for $5,000 S&N, is a top-10 First-Crop sire by both wins and winners. His 2023 fee will be announced in the near future.
