When Mo Donegal’s hip No. 145 sold for $160,000 during the first day of the Keeneland January sale, it would ultimately be the top price paid for a short yearling by a First-Crop sire of 2025.

The Kentucky-bred bay was offered by Paramount Sales, agent, and went to En Fuego Stables.

The colt is the second foal out of the Bernardini mare Crack of Dawn, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Buy the Best. The colt’s second dam Sister Dawn was also a stakes winner who placed in both the Bayakoa S. (G2) and Santa Paula S. (G3).

Mo Donegal, a son of legendary sire Uncle Mo, entered stud at Spendthrift in 2023 following a brilliant career that included wins in the Remsen S. (G2) at 2, and the Belmont S. (G1) and Wood Memorial S. (G2) at 3. His Wood Memorial win was the fastest in nearly 20 years.

Mo Donegal is standing this year for a fee of $10,000 S&N.
