November 11, 2024

The ultra-consistent Stormcast, a first-crop daughter of Mitole, won her first graded stakes on November 9th in the Grade 3 Bessarabian Stakes at Woodbine.

Stormcast (Mitole) wins G3 Bessarabian Stakes

Already a stakes winner this year, Stormcast has placed in all 8 starts, including three wins and four seconds. Ridden to victory by jockey Rafael Manuel Hernandez, Stormcast broke quickly and lead from start to finish. Turning for home, she opened up on her competition and held off a late-running competitor by half a length for trainer Mark Casse. Her running time for the 7 furlongs on the all-weather track was 1:22.43. Her first stakes victory came in August in the Bison City Stakes, also at Woodbine, where she powered to victory by 7 3/4 lengths.

Bred in Ontario by Dr. Tan Hyka, she was first sold as a weanling the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $40,000 to Monarch Farms, who then sold her in the Ocala March Two Year Olds in Training Sale for $95,000 to current owner K E M Racing Stable. She is out of the stakes winning Scolara, a daughter of Quiet American.

This win bumped her total earnings up to $309,205. Her sire, Mitole, currently sits as one of the top third crop sires with total progeny earnings of $5,785,910 for 2024.
